North Carolina Voters Prefer Donald Trump, New Poll Finds

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Former President Donald Trump is increasingly popular with North Carolina likely voters, a new poll shows.

The Napolitan News Service surveyed 780 likely voters in North Carolina between Sept. 25 and 27 as to whether they preferred Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump leads Harris in North Carolina by a 51% to 47% margin among likely voters when leaners are included.

North Carolina is considered to be a swing state. While voters there have historically supported the GOP presidential nominee, Republican Trump prevailed over Democrat Joe Biden in the Tar Heel State in 2020 by just 1.3 percentage points.

Trump has increased in favorability by 2 points, while Harris’ favorability with North Carolina voters has decreased by 3 points.

If the election were held today, 49% of those surveyed said they would vote for Trump, while 46% said they would vote for Harris.

Trump was regarded very or somewhat favorably by 51% of likely voters. Harris was very or somewhat favorably regarded by 48% of those surveyed.

The economy is the most important issue to North Carolinians—with 83% saying it’s the most important issue to them—followed by inflation, health care, crime, and immigration, according to the poll. Forty-four percent of likely voters described the state of the economy as “fair.”

Over half of those surveyed said they trust Republicans more than Democrats on immigration, crime, the war between Hamas and Israel, inflation, the economy, and gun laws.

Voters preferred Democrats on education, health care, abortion, and climate change.

In the North Carolina governor’s race, Democratic state Attorney General Josh Stein leads Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson 53% to 38%.

That comes after a CNN report that Robinson made inappropriate comments on pornographic websites. Robinson has denied the allegations.
