LANSING, Mich. (MICHIGAN NEWS SOURCE)—As Nov. 5 inches closer, the race for president in Michigan sits at a statistical dead heat.
An exclusive statewide poll of Michigan voters conducted for Michigan News Source and MIRS by Mitchell Research & Communications, Inc. shows former President Donald Trump holds a 1% lead over Vice President Kamala Harris (49%-48%) in a trial ballot question for president in 2024.
“Although most people look at the two-way ballot, the fact is that voters will be looking at the eight choices because that’s what is on the ballot,” said Steve Mitchell with Mitchell Research & Communications, Inc.
Minor candidates include Chase Oliver, Randall Terry, Jill Stein, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Joseph Kishore, and Cornel West. Kennedy has fought in court several times to be removed from the ballot, but his name remains there despite suspending his campaign and supporting Trump.
According to the poll, Democrat voters say Harris is more likely to win than Trump (74%-4%). Republican voters say Trump is more likely to win than Harris (79%-4%).
One issue that spanned several questions dealt with “Are you personally better off now than four years ago?” The poll showed white voters (56%-41%) say they are worse off, as well as voters of other ethnicities (65%-34%). Meanwhile, African American voters say they are better off today (43%-37%).
In addition, Michigan’s U.S. Senate race shows a five-point gap between Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin (49%) and Republican Mike Rogers (44%).
Slotkin and Rogers are running for the seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a Democrat. Michigan’s Senate seats have been dominated by Democrats for decades.
